Tesla Protection Packages
Paint Protection Packages for Tesla Owners in Canton, Ohio
Tesla factory paint is notably thinner and softer than most German and Japanese competitors - which means less margin for rock chips and easier swirling during routine washing. Burton installs 3M Authorized PPF and Gyeon Certified ceramic coating built around that reality. Bundles start at $3,745. Most vehicles finish in 3–5 days.
The Engineering Reality
Why Tesla Paint Demands More
Tesla paint is not a secret problem - it's a documented one. Independent paint-depth measurements from owners, body shops, and industry reviewers consistently report total paint-stack thickness on Tesla vehicles in the 100–120 micron range, compared to 150+ microns on most BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Porsche, and Lexus comparables. The clear coat layer specifically tends to run thinner and softer.
Softer clear coat means three practical consequences. First, it marrs and swirls more easily during routine washing - the exact reason you'll see Tesla owners obsessing over two-bucket method and microfiber quality in forums. Second, it offers less margin for paint correction later; a detailer can only cut what's there, and aggressive multi-stage polishing that's routine on German paint risks hitting base coat on a Tesla. Third, the aerodynamic front-end profile on Model 3 and Model Y - the design that helps deliver 4+ mi/kWh - also funnels highway debris directly into the hood and front bumper at interstate speeds.
For owners planning to sell or trade the vehicle within 3–5 years, cosmetic condition becomes a meaningful line item. The used-EV market is still thin and buyers pay close attention to stone chips, swirl marks, and clear-coat yellowing. PPF on the front clip and a Gyeon ceramic covered by Gyeon's manufacturer warranty on Gyeon's terms across the rest of the panels is how you arrive at trade-in with the paint still looking like it did on delivery day.

Model-Specific Notes
By Model
Different Tesla platforms have different protection priorities. Here's what we actually see in the shop.
Model 3
Most common Tesla on Canton roads.
The Model 3's aerodynamic front profile and low ride height funnel highway debris straight into the hood and bumper - front-clip PPF is one of the highest-ROI protection moves you can make on this car. Pair it with Gyeon ceramic across all panels, especially on Pearl White or Solid Black where swirl marks and yellowing show first.
Model Y
Family crossover with heavy interior wear.
The Model Y takes the same front-clip hit as the Model 3 but adds interior wear from kids, pets, and cargo runs. We recommend pairing Full Front PPF and Gyeon Standard ceramic with a full interior deep clean - vegan leather seats, glass roof interior, and footwells benefit from a reset that's hard to DIY.
Model S
Executive sedan - resale plays the long game.
Model S owners typically keep the car longer and resell into a thinner used-EV market where cosmetic condition drives the sale price. Full Vehicle PPF plus Presidential-tier Gyeon is common on Plaid and Long Range builds. The larger hood and longer door surfaces reward full-panel film coverage.
Model X
Falcon-wing doors need a custom plan.
Model X coverage gets custom-quoted. The Falcon-wing doors have complex edges, more glass, and more painted surface area than a standard SUV - film coverage takes longer and template fit matters. We inspect in-shop and build the film plan around your actual driving profile, not a generic SUV template.
Cybertruck
Different platform - honest framing.
Cybertruck is not painted on most body panels - it's bare stainless steel. Standard PPF designed for clear-coated paint doesn't bond the same way, and ceramic coating behaves differently on stainless than on paint. For Cybertruck we recommend matte vinyl wrap or clear stainless film on the exterior depending on the look you want, plus full interior detailing. We'll walk you through what makes sense and what doesn't.
After The Install
Keeping Your Tesla Looking New
A two-week maintenance wash cadence is the single biggest factor in how long your protection lasts. Hand wash with pH-neutral shampoo, two-bucket method, clean microfiber. The softer Tesla clear coat punishes shortcuts more than most paint does.
Use Gyeon maintenance spray (or an equivalent ceramic-safe detail spray) as a drying aid - it reinforces the coating's hydrophobic layer after every wash and keeps beading strong between annual decontamination services.
Avoid automated drive-thru car washes. The rotating brushes and recycled wash water at commercial tunnel washes introduce swirl marks into Tesla clear coat even with ceramic present - we see it every week. Touchless washes are acceptable in a pinch; hand wash at home or at Burton is always better.
Plan on one annual decontamination wash (iron remover, clay or clay-alternative, reapplication of Gyeon boost) to reset the coating performance. We include one free maintenance wash with every Presidential-tier package.
